Aura Art Stay brings to you a 10-day pottery retreat to help you learn and try your hand at pottery. A pottery holiday, if you may, with a combination of pottery classes, fun activities, and a calm & peaceful environment. An extension of your typical backpacking hostel adventure, we aim to give you the experience to remember!

 

 

Retreat Dates

Minimum stay of 3 days.

 

Potter Retreat Format

The Retreat will focus on demonstration of techniques and concepts. We encourage you to experiment with this form of art. The group may vary from 5 to 10 participants which will allow the mentor plenty of one-on-one time with you to help you learn.

The Retreat will include:

10 Days Pottery Course
24 hours Studio Availability
Use of all tools, material, and equipment
Morning and Afternoon Sessions with Mentor
Firing and Glazing
Entertainment and Fun Workshops
Self-serve tea and coffee
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Accommodation on sharing basis

Mentor

Rahul Kumar

 Rahul will be focusing on altering basic forms to enhance them, along with an overview of various techniques. Manipulations of wheel thrown forms and off-the-wheel forms includes additions, subtraction, and often pushing the contours to make aesthetically pleasing sculptural forms. Multiple firing techniques are used to finish the work based on the requirement and desired results. He's been teaching pottery courses in India for many years now and brings extensive experience to the table.
Rahul is a ceramic artist who completed his masters from the USA on a Fulbright Scholarship and is a recipient of the Charles Wallace award of British Council. His works have been auctioned at Sotheby's London. A three-time recipient of the AIFACS National Award and the Junior Fellowship for Excellence in the Field of Visual Arts by the Government of India, Rahul has had 7 solo shows. He collaborated with Raqs-Media Collective for a show with NGMA-Delhi. A large-scale installation funded by India Foundation for the Arts was showcased at India Art Fair 2015. His works are part of prestigious collections in India and abroad, including Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. You can take a look at his work here

 

Retreat Schedule

We’ve put together a fun filled week for you, between turning pots and firing glazes enjoy mini workshops at the stay. With yoga in the morning to a dip in the pool in the evening, there’s never a dull moment at Aura with lots of exciting things to do.

 

A typical day at Aura would be as follows:

7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Yoga/Swimming
9:00 AM - Breakfast
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM - Pottery Workshop
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Lunch & Rest
3:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Studio Time
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM - Mini Workshop/Entertainment
8:30 PM - Dinner

 

Studio and Equipment

Take full advantage of our spacious studio for your creative adventures, with pottery workstations and equipment that makes pottery even more fun. An outdoor and indoor space that’s the highlight of our stay and a kiln designed and built from scratch, we’re well equipped to cater to your pottery needs.

Studio Hours: Open 24 hours
Pool Hours: 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

 

Entertainment

After a day full of working in the studio, unwind with something different. Each evening we organize an entertainment for you, be it a mini workshop in something new or a musical evening by the pool.

 

 

Accommodation

Accommodation is included as part of the retreat. Our quaint little villa gives you an authentic experience of living and doing pottery in Indian Villages. With a courtyard and a common lounge for chilling, and a community kitchen for some fun organic meals.

 

 

 

Meals

Meals are included as part of the retreat, we prepare organic Indian food that is not only healthy but utterly delicious. From pickles made at the stay to vegetables grown in our gardens, fruits from the orchards and honey fresh from the hive, you’ll enjoy every bit of it.
